Self-contained machines have a storage facilty built into the carcass of the machine whilst modular units incorporate the benefit of a separate larger storage bin. The larger storage bin means that modular machines are often used where there is a higher demand for ice over a short time period.
The most commom use of flake ice is within the fishing industry both for retail display and chilled storage during transport from ship to shop. Flake or crushed ice, is also used extensively in the healthcare and laboratory/scientific environment, industrial food and chemical processing and of course, no cocktail bar should be without one.
